Three metres wide, six long, one window at the end and a door at each corner. Every layout I drew filled the room, and every one of them was wrong.
The version that works leaves a 900mm gap in the middle of the long run with nothing in it but worktop. It is where the shopping lands, where dough gets rolled, where the laptop sits on a Sunday. Filling it with a dishwasher would have gained a machine and lost the room.
Everything else is conventional: run under the window, tall cupboards at the dark end, marble on top, brass on the doors. The gap is the design.
