A listed Georgian basement, which means every decision has two answers: the one that works and the one that is allowed. The cornice stayed, the shutters stayed, and nothing was fixed to the chimney breast.
The run sits free of the walls on its own plinth, so the original plaster is untouched behind it. The marble is one piece, templated after the carcasses were standing, and it runs the full length of the room without a joint - eleven weeks of waiting for the right slab, and the reason the room reads as calm.
The scullery next door takes the noise: dishwasher, boiler, the recycling, and a second sink for the flowers.
