A barn, so a single volume with rubble stone walls you cannot fix anything to, a roof five metres up and no natural place for a kitchen to be.
We built it an island instead - 3.4m of oak on a painted base, freestanding, carrying the sink, the hob and every drawer in the room. It defines a kitchen without a single wall unit, and from the far end of the barn it reads as a piece of furniture rather than a fitted kitchen, which was the point.
The two bathrooms are inserted as boxes at the gable end, plastered inside, stone outside, so the volume of the barn survives them.
